Green Strategies for Building Design

This module is an exploration of passive sustainable strategies in architectural design. It looks at the different elements that make up architecture and how the integration of passive design strategies with these elements contribute to the quality of spatial experience within a building. Student were to undertake case studies to analyse the applications of these strategies and their impact on the quality and experience of space. The understanding of the various passive sustainable design strategies will inform the students’ own studio project.

Project Showcase

Project 1: Passive Green Building Case Studies Poster & Booklet

For this project, we were to critically appraise application of chosen strategies within different cases, as well as analyze theories and principles of passive green building design strategies.

We were required to select 2 different buildings as case studies: One from the tropical climate region and another from any other climatic region ((Arid, Mediterranean, Temperate Continental, Polar)

Project 2: Passive Green Building Strategies Report

This project was to run concurrently with the final Studio IV Project proposal of designing a Wellness Centre for Kepong Botanical Gardens. Students were expected to employ all passive green building strategies by their tropical building case study done in the Assignment 1 wherever possible, including but not limited to site planning, day lighting, façade design, natural ventilation, strategic landscaping and other renewable energies.
