Sustainable Design, Policies and Regulations
This module introduces students to environmental issues and provides some in-depth understanding of the complexities and influences that built environment causes to the natural environment. The module's intent is to instill environmental literacy and understandings of policies related to sustainable design and practices.

1. To develop awareness of local and global environmental issues and concern`s
2. To explore the various sustainable practices and trends in built environment

Project 1
Sustainable Design, Policies and Regulations Research Paper
This assignment required students, in groups, to write a research paper and presentation of their chosen theme with minimum 5000 and maximum 7000 words. Each group was to analyze and extract the important ideas from one of the highlighted themes of:​

Smart Villages in Malaysia

Building and wellbeing/ Built Environment/Building and Obesity

Climate resilient residential buildings/development-storm/rain/flood
The first part of the essay was to be a review of the related text for the chosen theme. Using these ideas as the theoretical framework of each particular theme, students were to analyze a particular researched topic highlighting the relationship between the theoretical ideas and the selected works. That should form the main part of the essay, which is the analysis of completed works. Themes were assigned by tutor and topics were finalized upon discussion with tutor

Project 2
Exploring local architecture or Built Environment (BE) responses to specific SDG goals and targets
This project allows the student to explore how architecture can provide the basis towards meeting several Sustainable Design Goals. Designers can provide basic ideas and proposals for regulations that makes it possible for sustainable communities. Working in partnership, designers can facilitate the open dialogue to provide solutions as a way forward. The 17 SDGs define the challenges that need to be addressed to achieve a better and more sustainable future.

Students were to select a local building to study with respect to the 17 SDGs and out of the 17, choose 1 SDG that the building responds to and analyse the building using the chosen SDG as the framework.
